positioning

this tutorial will teach you how to position the "boxes" of your header image in photoshop.
you will need 3 (in some cases 4) different dimensions: top, left, and width. (if you're using a box for something like updates or affiliates, you'll need to figure out the height as well, i'll explain that later)
step one: open up your div image in photoshop and click your rectangular marquee tool.

example here.

step two: first, we'll find out the left. so, using your marquee tool, drag the box from the left side of your domain image to the left of the first box you're using. i'll be using my leftmost sidebar.

example here.

step three: press ctrl+c to copy your selection, then ctrl+n. then STOP. the width of your new file is your left. mine is 35px. once you've written it down somewhere, click cancel.

step four: now we'll find the top. take your marquee tool again and now measure from the top of your domain image to the top of your box.

example here.

step five: repeat step three to find the demension for the top, except this time instead of the width, it will be the height of the new document. (my top is 543px.)

step six: now, we have to find the width. again, take your marquee tool and drag from the left of your box to the right. (my width is 180px.)

example here.

step seven: repeat step three again and you're done! this is what my code looks like with all my demensions:

now, if you've got an affies/cbox/updates box that doesn't repeat throughout the page, it's very simple to keep the text from "overflowing". when you're using your marquee tool, select the entire box. then press ctrl+c and ctrl+v like usual, but this time record the width AND the height. you'll also have to make sure your overflow property is auto.

example here.

this is what the code for my updates box looks like:

and then you're done! if you need further coding help, click here. if you have any questions, comment in my cbox or message me on facebook/socialien! i hope this helped you out <3 :)
